Bertil Vallien's fascinating glass sculpture "Hefaistos" (Hephaistos) with a orange/gold mask and mythological expression. The head is sand casted with transparent glass and flowing black content, giving it a unique touch. Hefaistos belongs to Bertil's famous "Brains" series. Vallien How this Head Is Crafted

1. The shape, size, color scheme and content of the glass head are planned in sketches.
2. A wooden model of the head is made by hand.
3. Molding sand is placed in a metal box. Then, the wooden model is pressed down to create an impression.
4. Metal scoops are filled with the melted full crystal glass and emptied into the sand mold. Then, the mold is inserted into the cooling oven to cool slowly for several days.
5. When the glass head leaves the mold, the casting sand is brushed off. Then, the head is then sanded and decorated by hand.
