An Overview of Monica Backström’s Eggs
Monica Backström (1939–2020) designed many classics for the Swedish glassworks in Boda and Kosta. Some of the most well-known objects are the eggs from the 1970s. In the normal production, six sculptures of different sizes were manufactured. She got the idea in connection with a large exhibition that would highlight Swedish design internationally.

The four standing eggs come with five colors, where the two lying eggs have three colors. They were all made of hand-blown clear glass and then rolled in polychrome glass powder. On the surface, they were marked with a Boda or Kosta label. Aside from the normal production, a large amount of unique and limited eggs were also crafted.

Standing yellow egg. Four heights: 6,5 cm (2.6 in), 10 cm (3.9 in), 13 cm (5.1 in), 19 cm (7.5 in).
Lying white egg. Two lengths: 10 cm (3.9 in.) and 13 cm (5.1 in).
Lying blue egg. Two lengths: 10 cm (3.9 in.) and 13 cm (5.1 in).
Lying brown egg. Two lengths: 10 cm (3.9 in.) and 13 cm (5.1 in).
