Taisto Kaasinen (1918–1980) designed many classics for the Swedish Upsala-Ekeby company. One of the most well-known series is Sagoland (Wonderland) from 1959. It consists of small earthenware wall plaques with a quadratic form, dark brown clay, and colorful relief motifs.
On the lower side, the Sagoland objects were deep stamped with UE, Sweden, TK, and the model number. Most of them came from the normal production (model 6040–6047), but some were made for the department stores Åhlen & Holm (model 4330/756) and Turitz & Co (model 1041/20).
The Sagoland series was manufactured until 1961. Which of Taisto’s wall plaques is your favorite?
