An Overview of Mari Simmulson’s Tokyo Series

Mari Simmulson (1911–2000) designed many classics for the Swedish Upsala-Ekeby company in the 1950s to 1970s. One of the most well-known series is Tokyo from 1964. It consists of eight earthenware bowls and vases. They have sturdy forms, unglazed brown sections, and incised yellow linear decors. The items are deep stamped on the lower side with UE, model number, and Mari’s mark (MS or Maris). The series was manufactured until 1965. Which of Mari’s Tokyo objects is your favorite?
