An Overview of Ulla Winblad’s Wall Plaques
Ulla Winblad (1933–1992) became the artistic leader of the small Swedish company Alingsås Keramik in 1958. She specialized in interior design goods like bowls, vases, and candleholders.
But most of all, Ulla’s hand-decorated wall plaques found the hearts of the Swedish home owners. They are made of chamotte stoneware with rough surface and rectangular or quadratic forms. The kindhearted relief motifs often show colorful stylized animals.
The plaques have two holes with a leather band in between. On the back side, they are usually marked with the model number, Allingsås Keramik, Stengods (Stoneware), and U Winblad.
Ulla left the company in 1966 to start a ceramic studio in the USA. Which of her Alingsås wall plaques is your favorite?
