An Overview of Mari Simmulson’s Aira Series
Mari Simmulson (1911–2000) designed many classics for the Swedish Upsala-Ekeby company in the 1950s to 1970s. One of the most well-known series is Aira from 1959. It consists of six earthenware bowls and vases. They have petroleum green glazes, rough textures, and linear reliefs. The items are deep stamped on the lower side with UE, model number, and Mari’s mark (MS or Maris). The series was manufactured until 1960. Which of Mari’s Aira objects is your favorite?
