Kjell Bolinder – A Short Biography
The early years
Kjell Bolinder (1942-) was born in the Hoganas area in the south of Sweden. The area has a long and rich tradition of high quality pottery. Kjell comes from a long line of ceramists dating back to the 1830s. He started his own studio in the 1960s in the close surroundings of his home. For a long time, Kjell worked as a firefighter alongside his ceramist career.

Perfectionist by heart
Kjell is well-known for his perfectionist and experimental nature. He specializes in unique stoneware pottery in classical thrown forms with magnificent glazes. Kjell uses self-made clay and experiments frequently with different glaze compositions in his specially built gradient oven. It usually takes a few years before he is satisfied with a particular glaze. Although he is most famous for his delicate haresfur glazes, he also masters the art of classical Chinese, crystal, manganese, and molybdenum glazes.

Welcome to the Hoganas studio!
Kjell’s Hoganas studio with showroom, workshop, and a dozen furnaces, is well worth a visit. He welcomes visitors with open arms in the summer time. Great art is still crafted in Hoganas, so bring your wallets!
