An Overview of Staffan Johnson’s “Utrotningshotade Djur i Vintermiljö” Wall Plaques

Staffan Johnson designed many classics for the Swedish Jie-Keramik company from the 1960s to the 1990s. One of the most well-known series is the “Utrotningshotade Djur i Vintermiljö” (Endangered Animals in Winter Environment) from 1987 to 1991. Each year, a relief wall plaque in a limited edition of 3000 to 5000 was launched. It was made of white earthenware clay with a rectangular form and hand-decorated motif.

Every sold wall plaque contributed money to a World Wildlife Fund project for the depicted animal. The backside is deep stamped with Jie, Sweden WWF, and Staffan Johnson. Which of his “Utrotningshotade Djur i Vintermiljö” wall plaques is your favorite?
