An Overview of Mari Simmulson’s Beata Series
Mari Simmulson (1911–2000) designed many classics for the Swedish Upsala-Ekeby company in the 1950s to 1970s. One of the most well-known series is Beata from 1964. It consists of 27 earthenware bowls, dishes, jars, mirrors, vases, and wall plaques. They have unglazed surfaces and colorful woman motifs in relief. The items are deep stamped on the lower side with UE, model number, and Mari’s mark (MS or Maris). The series was manufactured until 1969. Which of Mari’s Beata objects is your favorite?
