An Overview of Berit Ternell ’s Furuvik Series
Berit Ternell (1929–) designed many classics for the Swedish Gefle company in the 1950s to 1970s. One of the most well-known series is Furuvik from 1960. It consists of porcelain kitchenware like jars, pitchers, and plates. They have gently rounded forms and stylized flower decors in yellow (most common), green, and blue (least common) colors.
The series was named after the Furuvik zoo and amusement park outside of Gävle in the east of Sweden. It was manufactured until 1962. A few of the models were designed by Berit herself, and the rest were designed by Arthur Percy and Sven Erik Skawonius. Which of the Furuvik objects is your favorite?
