Ninnie Forsgren – Wall Plaques from Bromma Keramik
Ninnie Forsgren (1937–) was one of the distinguished ceramics of the Swedish 20th century. She became mostly known for her colorful and kindhearted wall plaques from the 1960s and 1970s. An Overview of Ninnie Forsgren’s Wall Plaques
Ninnie Forsgren (1937–) was employed in 1962 by the small Stockholm ceramic company Bromma Keramik. The next year, she bought the company, and later changed the name to Ateljé Ninnie Keramik. She specialized in interior design goods like bowls, dishes, and candleholders.
But most of all, Ninnie’s hand-decorated wall plaques found the hearts of the Swedish home owners. They are made of brown stoneware with rough surface and rectangular or quadratic forms. The kindhearted relief motifs show colorful stylized animals, people, and plants.
The plaques have two holes with a leather band in between. On the back side, they are usually marked with the model number and the company or artist name. Ninnie left the company in 1978 to work as a free ceramist and painter. Which of her wall plaques is your favorite?
