An Overview of Stig Lindberg’s Birka Series
Stig Lindberg designed many classics for the Swedish Gustavsberg company. One of the most well-known series is Birka from 1973. It consists of 30 tableware pieces like cups, plates, and pots. The parts are made of stoneware with sturdy forms, eggshell white glaze, and linear decors. The name Birka comes from a Viking-age trading center close to present-day Stockholm.
On the lower side, the objects are stamped with Birka, Gustavsberg, and Sweden. The series was manufactured until 1995. Which of Stig’s Birka objects is your favorite?
