Oiva Toikka is mainly associated with his internationally recognized glass art. But he first studied ceramics at the Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki. From time to time, he returned to this material when working for companies in Finland and Sweden.
One of the most well-known of his ceramic series is Granat (Granite) for the Swedish Rörstrand company. It was designed in 1989 and consisted of four bowls and one vase. They were made of porcelain with red/white stone like decor and four-sided base or top. Each model came in a limited edition of 150. Granat shares these models with the Granit series.
The bases are marked with the Rörstrand symbol, Sweden, and Oiva Toikka. Which of the Granat objects is your favorite?
