An Overview of Stig Lindberg’s Blå Husar Series
Stig Lindberg designed many classics for the Swedish Gustavsberg company. One of the most well-known series is Blå Husar from 1968. It consists of tableware pieces like cups, plates, and jars. The parts are made of flintware with modern forms, printed geometric decors, and cobalt blue glaze. Salt was added at the firing to give the glaze the smeared appearance so typical of the series.
The name Blå Husar (Blue Hussar) comes from a light cavalry soldier that wore blue uniforms in Sweden. On the lower side, the objects are stamped with Blå Husar, Gustavsberg, Sweden, and Stig L. The series was manufactured until 1973. Which of Stig’s Blå Husar objects is your favorite?
