An Overview of Staffan Johnson’s Province Animal Wall Plaques from the 1980s

Staffan Johnson designed many classics for the Swedish Jie-Keramik company from the 1960s to the 1990s. One of the most well-known series is the ”Landskapsdjur” (Province Animals) from the 1980s. It consists of wall plaques with the representative animal of each one of Sweden’s 25 regions. They are made of white clay with a rectangular form and kindhearted expression. 

The wall plaques measure 21 cm (8.3 in) in height and 17 cm (6.7 in) in width. On the backside, they are deep stamped with Jie, model number, Staffan Johnsson, animal name, and region name. The series was produced for the benefit of the World Wildlife Foundation. Which of the wall plaques is your favorite?
