An Overview of Mari Simmulson’s Calypso Series
Mari Simmulson (1911–2000) designed many classics for the Swedish Upsala-Ekeby company in the 1950s to 1970s. One of the most well-known series is Calypso from 1957. It consists of eight earthenware bowls and vases. They have hourglass forms, brown/black geometric relief patterns, and yellow inner layers. The items are deep stamped on the lower side with UE, model number, and Mari’s mark (MS or Maris). The series was manufactured until 1959. Which of Mari’s Calypso objects is your favorite?
