Timo Sarpaneva – Glass from Arabia and Iittala
Timo Sarpaneva (1926–2006) was one of Finland’s leading glass artists in the 20th century. He was part of the Nordic design tradition aiming for clarity in shape that was as timeless, organic and “cool” as Scandinavian nature. After his art studies at the Institute for Industrial Arts in Helsinki, Timo worked for the Arabia factory for many decades. He became a prominent designer of iconic glass pieces like Festivo, Kayak, and Orchid. Timo’s artistry is represented at numerous museums in the Nordic countries.
