An Overview of Erik Höglund’s Bronze Medallions with King Motifs

Erik Höglund left Boda after 20 years in 1973 to start his own smithery. He then had become the designer who most personified the enormous vitality of the Swedish art industry. The decision had not been made in a hurry. During the last years at Boda, Erik felt more and more limited in his creative process by the economic concerns of the factory.

In 1976, Erik crafted medallions in his smithery with famous Swedish kings motifs from the 12th and 13th century. They are made of bronze with a diameter of 4 cm (1.6 in). The medallions show an image of the king on the front side, and an important event in his life on the backside. Each is marked with the king’s name and lifetime, and “Erik Höglund 76”.
