Wilhelm Kåge (Farsta 1931) Brown/Black Sturdy Vase 20 cm

Wilhelm Kåge’s Farsta vase with a sturdy form and brown/black glaze. The handmade masterpiece – unique in both shape and glaze – was crafted in 1931 in the Gustavsberg studio. Kåge’s Farsta set comprises his most exclusive pottery artwork. It was first presented at the groundbreaking Stockholm Exhibition of 1930. The fired Farsta pieces were dipped in a bath with metal oxides which were drawn into the clay. The objects were then glazed and fired again. The oxides were drawn out by the heat to lend the glaze a layered texture with magnificent color effects. The stoneware clay for the artwork was collected from the Farsta bay close to the Gustavsberg factory. The objects were therefor incised with “Farsta”. They all share an aura of quality and are regarded as nobility in the world of Swedish pottery.
