Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) was one of Finland’s leading designers in the 20th century. He was part of the Nordic design tradition aiming for clarity in shape that was as timeless, organic and “cool” as Scandinavian nature. After his art studies at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Tapio worked for, among others, Iittala and Rosenthal for many decades. His artistry is represented at numerous museums in the Nordic countries.
