Sven Palmqvist's iconic vase with a streamlined form, net pattern, and blue/yellow/green color. It was crafted by the kraka technique at Orrefors in the 1950s. A unique piece from the Swedish glass master!
Kraka is a special type of glass with overlay (a clear inner layer and one or more colored outer layers). A craftsman then pulls a net over the outer layer and sandblasts it before adding a clear outer layer. Sven Palmqvist developed this technique at Orrefors in 1944. The name comes from a female character who wore only a fish net in a Viking saga.

Sven Palmqvist (1906–1984) was one of Sweden's leading glass artists during the 20th century. After his studies at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, he worked for the Orrefors glassworks between the 1940s and 1970s. Sven became well-known for his innovative glass techniques such as kraka, Ravenna, and fuga. His artistry is represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
