Peter Winquist (Faenza 1970) Round Bowl with Brown Flower Patterns 15 cm (2)

Peter Winquist (born 1941 in Tenhola, Finland) graduated as an industrial designer from the University of Art and Design of Gothenburg, Sweden, and worked at the Rörstrand factories in Linköping. He was a designer at Arabia from his graduation in 1967 until 1974, first in the Industrial Design Department and later in the Product Design Department. Winquist designed one of Arabia’s best-known tableware services of all time, the EH design, also known as the Faenza service. It was awarded a prize in the International Faenza art ceramics competition. The EH service contained functional and practical solutions typical of the period, such as rounded rims curving out, light construction, drip grooves, and carefully dimensioned stackability. He also designed a children’s service produced by Arabia. The design process began with a visit to the Arabia Children’s House day-care facility to study the table manners of potential users, and the prototypes were later tested there. After his years with Arabia, Peter Winquist has, among other positions, been the artistic director of the Pentik Company, and he has made studio ceramics from stoneware and red clay using different firing methods.
