An Overview of Inger Persson's Pop series
Inger Persson (1936-) is the designer of the legendary 1960s “Pop” series. She was only 22 when she started working at Rorstrand in the late 1950s. Inger took holidays to France on grants, studying pottery at the Chateau de Ratilly. In France, she crafted the teapot that would become the forerunner to the iconic Pop teapot.
In 1968, Inger finally finished designing the “Pop” series. The groundbreaking series comprises ten objects with architectonic form and enamel glazes in strong colors. Originally, the Rorstrand management wanted to produce the series in just one color. But Inger stood her ground, and it was expanded to six different glazes: white, red, yellow, blue, turquoise, and green. She was awarded a gold medal for the teapot at the 1969 ceramics biennial in Faenza.

Inger Persson’s Pop series was a huge success among the public, and it was produced until 1981. Today it is one of the most well-known symbols of Swedish 1960s design. Hail the Queen of pop!
