Hjördis Oldfors (1920–2014) designed many classics for the Swedish Upsala-Ekeby company in the 1950s. One of the most well-known series is Atoll from 1956. It consists of 10 earthenware bowls and vases. They have gently swelling forms, glossy black glaze, and white linear relief decor. The items are deep stamped on the lower side with UE, model number, and Hjördis’s mark (”Hj” in a circle). The series was manufactured until 1958. Which of Hjördis’ Atoll objects is your favorite?
