Gunnar Nylund (1904–1997) designed many classics for the Swedish ceramic factory Rörstrand. Some of the most well-known objects are the hedgehog vases with swelling forms, strong colors, and rough surfaces. They were part of the larger Chamott (Chamotte) series from 1936 and 1948.
The vases came in three models (AI, CH, and AGR) and five standard colors (emerald, topaz, turquoise, white, and yellow). Hedgehogs with other colors exist, but are more rare. They were manufactured until the 1950s, when Rörstrand’s design shifted to more slender forms and modest colors. Which of Gunnar's hedgehog vases is your favorite?
