An Overview of Christer Holmgren’s Carnaby Series

Swedish-born Christer Holmgren (1933–) worked as a glass designer for the Danish Holmegaard company between 1957 and 1970. He is today most known for his contribution to the Carnaby series in 1968.

Christer designed three vases for the series: 22 cm (8.7 in), 27 cm (10.6 in), and 32 cm (12.6 in). They had segmented shapes, pop-era colors, and joyous expressions.

The vases came in four color schemes: yellow, white, red/white, and turquoise/white. The series was in production until 1976.

Today, the vases are often accompanied with a contrasting colored ball on top. These balls were actually designed by Michael Bang but crafted at the same glassworks as the vases.
